On the other end of the phone, Noah let out a long sigh.
“It’s not gonna
be easy, man. Alice’s really hurt.”
He had tried to comfort me during this time, but nothing seemed to work.

Luke pulled out his phone, opened his text thread with me, and typed:”Alice, meet me at the coffee shop across from the school after classes tomorrow. I need to talk to you.”

Garrett smirked. “You’re Alice? You’re…pretty hot.”
I raised an eyebrow, my expression cool and composed.
Garrett grinned, pleased.”I’m Garrett Yates. I’d like to be friends with you.”
A chorus of squeals erupted from the surrounding girls.
“Damn, he is so direct; he’s so handsome!”
“His girlfriends only last a month; though! He’s gone through a ton of them. But still girls fall for him.”

Hearing this, my mouth twitched. Because in my past life, Garrett had said the same thing, but to Chloe. It was ridiculous!
Just then, Chloe got out of the car and her face twisted when she saw Garrett talking to me. I was clearly harboring such thoughts!
Chloe rushed over. “Alice, you were out all night! Noah’s worried sick. You can’t be out all night with that school doctor, given your unclear relationship.”
After hearing this, Garrett frowned, seemingly unable to believe that I, who looked so innocent, had such an open private life.
I looked at Chloe with a smirk that made her skin crawl.
“Alice, are you angry? I’m just worried you’re being taken advantage of,” Chloe said, her voice trembling slightly.
My expression remained impassive. “Save your fake concern.” I saw through Chloe’s attempt to smear me, but this was perfect, I didn’t want anything to do with Garrett either.
After saying that, I walked straight towards the school. With my backpack on, my fair features showed no expression, yet somehow exuded pressure.
The crowd parted for me, as I had made a name for myself with a twelve-hit combo; I was now the darling of the e-sports scene, with many teams eyeing me for recruitment.
However, since I was from the Welch family, those teams didn’t dare to poach me due to Luke’s influence.
Even after I left, the students buzzed about my amazing accomplishments.
Chloe bit her lip, addressing Garrett with feigned sweetness.”You’re Garrett, right? Alice has this kind of temperament; please don’t be upset.”
“Does she often stay out at night?” Garrett asked.
“Not often, her family’s strict. But recently, she’s been getting close to a school doctor, which has caused some family conflicts, leading to her staying out.”
Chloe added with a hint of regret, “Please don’t tell anyone, it would ruin her reputation.”
Garrett glanced at my retreating back, his expression shifting.
Chloe lowered her eyelids, hiding a flash of malice.
When I got to class, more boys were crowding around my desk. After sitting down, I found even more love letters in my desk than last time. I took a look and tossed them all into the trash can.
Outside the classroom, someone wailed, “Your love letters got thrown away; she didn’t even look at them!”

I found the noise distracting. I had other things on my mind.
When Chloe entered, she felt a pang of jealousy seeing the discarded letters. She used to be the most popular girl in class. Now, I had surpassed her.

Her sidekick chimed in, “Alice, don’t think Garrett actually likes you. The Yates family is way out of your league.”
I scoffed.”Not me, then who? You guys?”
The surrounding classmates nodded in agreement.”That makes sense; after all, Alice is the eldest daughter of the Welch family, while Chloe is just an adopted daughter; they’re not the same.”
“Stop talking; be careful not to be overheard.”
But I ignored them and walked away. Chloe’s hatred simmered; she wouldn’t give up on Garrett.
Near the end of the school day, I noticed an even larger crowd than before at the school gates. I had a bad feeling about this.
As I stepped outside, I saw Garrett leaning against his sports car, a massive bouquet of roses and candles spelling out my name in front of him.
“Alice! Alice! Alice!” chanted the crowd.”Say yes! Say yes! Say yes!”
I turned, grabbed a fire extinguisher from the security guard’s booth, and walked directly towards the display. I aimed the extinguisher at the candles and sprayed.
