Chapter 32
At this moment, I was sitting in the car with Jack. I glanced around at the traffic and couldn’t help but worry, “Noah will send people to find me, and they’ll bother you at school.” After all, this was Welch family territory. That was why I’d been putting up with everything, waiting to leave this place after the college
entrance exams.
He stroked
my hair.”Don’t worry. They won’t find you. Right now, you need to think about where to stay.”
I sighed. “I’ll rent an apartment.” I’d wanted to do this for a long time. I wished Noah had kicked me out earlier; things would be simpler.
“I know a place with rental apartments.”
I didn’t ask too many questions and followed him to that neighborhood. The environment was great. Seeing the interior, I said, “This place must be expensive. and I’m kind of broke right now!”
“Money’s not a problem. It’s my friend’s apartment. He doesn’t live here, so you can help him keep an eye on it. He’ll probably pay you.”
Jack stood by the large window, his figure lean and relaxed.
I laughed. “Is this your apartment?”
“No, mine’s next door.”
I was surprised. “Really? What a coincidence!”
He smirked casually,.”Otherwise, if you lived somewhere else, I wouldn’t feel at ease, considering I was the one who brought you out.”
My cheeks heated up; what did he mean by ‘brought you out’?
Jack changed the subject. “You can stay here for now; don’t worry
about anything else.”
I nodded. “Okay, but I’ll pay rent. I can sleep on the couch, I won’t mess up your friend’s room or touch his stuff.”
Jack frowned.”You don’t have to sleep on the couch; he hasn’t even stayed here. He’s a bit clueless with money, so no need to worry.”
I smiled.”You must be very close friends.” Only close friends would say something like that.
He glanced at his watch.”Want to play the game?”
“Sure.”
I followed him to the neighboring apartment; which looked exactly the same. Jack didn’t seem to have much stuff; it looked pretty empty. However, there were two high-end computers in the study.
I opened my game, seeing a live stream of my twelve-hit combo from the competition. The title called me King’s apprentice. I felt a bit guilty. After all, in my past life, I couldn’t even pull off a twelve-hit combo in the revival match, and I never met King.
Jack looked at me.”When did you learn to pull off a twelve-hit combo in the game?”

I panicked. How could I explain? Tell him I learned it in my past life? It was incredibly difficult.
Meru
I licked my lips.”Actually, I’m a fan of King. I’ve liked him since I was a kid and secretly practiced his signature move, but I never succeeded before. This time, during the match, I don’t know why, but I managed to pull it off.”
Jack’s expression was complex.”You’ve liked him since you were little?”
“Yes. That’s why I know it so well.” I was a bit uncertain, but that was the best explanation I could give. I genuinely admired King, so I was not lying.
I looked at him; he seemed uncomfortable.”Don’t ‘just like anyone casually.”
I was surprised. “It’s different. It’s King!” Who played this game and didn’t admire him?
Jack watched the video of me pulling off the twelve-hit combo, and his gaze softened. After all these years, I was the only one who had done it.
We played together, coordinating seamlessly. He paused.”Have you ever played a warrior?”
“No, mostly artillery.”
“Try a warrior. It might suit you better.”
My heart skipped a beat at his words. In my past life, someone told me the same thing, urging me to play a warrior. But back then, I only wanted to be an artillery since my sixth brother’s team needed one.
Suddenly, I was filled with excitement. Was Jack my past boyfriend? I’d regretted never thanking him in
person.
Jack said, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Nothing. By the way, do you have someone you like?”
“No. Why? Do you?” He narrowed his eyes, wary of early romance.
I looked at the screen.”Well, Sort of.” It was about my unfulfilled online romance from my past life. If I could meet him in this life, that would be great. I remembered when and where I met him in my past life. Maybe I’d meet him then.
Jack’s voice was low.”Kid, your priority right now is studying, not dating.”
“I know, after the college exams.” I’d met him after my exams in my past life.
Jack was irritated; early romance was troublesome. He closed the computer.”After dinner, you need to review your studies and cut down on gaming time.” More homework would keep me busy, then I probably wouldn’t have time to think about anything else.
After finishing two sets of college entrance exam papers that night, I was so exhausted that my brain felt fried. As I was getting ready to wash up and sleep, I suddenly realized I didn’t bring any change of clothes, including toiletries.
I hesitated for a moment, then decided to go out and buy some essentials. Just as I stepped outside, Jack opened the door and looked down at me, “It’s late. Where are you going?”
I felt like a child caught misbehaving. “I’m buying toiletries and pajamas.”

He paused, then closed the door. “Let’s go.” He didn’t have experience taking care of kids, so he didn’t think of that. It was pretty late now, and most shops were closed.
In the end, I only managed to buy toiletries; but couldn’t find pajamas or slippers. Jack’s expression was flat, and he seemed a bit displeased.
Back at his apartment, he called Andrew. “What’s going on with the apartment you arranged? Why is there no living essentials?”
“Dude, you called me and expected me to sort out that apartment in half an hour. Where would I find time to arrange living supplies? Besides, you could have just gone with her to buy essentials; it would help strengthen your relationship.”
Jack had always been waited on. He hadn’t thought of these details.
Andrew asked suspiciously, “You didn’t forget, did you? Did you go out to buy them at midnight?”
Jack gritted his teeth, “You can shut up now.” He hanged up, feeling a bit embarrassed as he glances at the closet. He grabbed a pair of his slippers and a clean men’s shirt. He knocked on my
door.
After a while, I heard a soft voice from inside.”Coming.”
I opened the door, my hair wet, water dripping down my clothes. Jack’s gaze flickered for a moment as he walked straight in.
I instinctively stepped back, but I tripped over my own feet and fell to the ground.
Oh no, how embarrassing!
That was the only thought running through my mind. But instead of hitting the floor, I landed in a warm embrace, hearing his heartbeat close to my ear.
