Chapter 28
I stood in the corridor, exchanging glances with Luke. Luke, his pride wounded, said aggressively, “You came to see the joke, didn’t you? Is it funny? Watching others laugh at our family team, are you satisfied now?”
I shot back, “It’s because you’re just not good enough.”
At that moment, the Mount team arrived at the back. I looked at their captain, the one who’d insulted me.”Let me ask you something, are you an orphan with no parents?”
The captain scowled. “What do
you
mean?”
“Literally, with a mouth like yours, I figured your parents must have passed away early, no one taught you
manners.”
“Brat, say that again if you
dare!” He was furious.
I said coldly, “In the upcoming match, if you lose, you better apologize publicly to the reporters for insulting my parents!”
“We’ll lose? You must be dreaming!”
“What’s the matter, scared to agree? Feeling guilty?” My taunts reeled him in.
“Fine, if
you lose, your captain will apologize for his words, too.”
The Mount team left angrily.
I remained calm; I knew how to win.
But the atmosphere in the Landing Team turned awkward.
Luke said irritably, “If we lose, you go apologize yourself. You’re not even on the team; why are you making
decisions?”
“I just want that guy to apologize, nothing else.”
As I finished, Noah rushed over, “Alice, I’m glad you’re here. Our family can finally be together.”
I bit my lip, staying silent. Noah looked around. “Where’s Chloe?”
Luke’s face stiffened.”I don’t know. She ran off after I scolded her.”
The rest of the team chimed in, “Captain, Chloe just wanted to win, she didn’t mean to do that.”
“She’s so hardworking, she stays up late training.”
“Captain, what you said earlier was a bit much.”
Luke felt frustrated. What did they mean? Chloe had insisted on the team despite her lack of talent; she had to work twice as hard. But clearly, she didn’t have the skills. When she messed up, was he not allowed to say anything?
I backed the team’s comments, “Yes, Chloe worked so hard, even sacrificing her study time. Luke, why did you scold her? You’re just worried about losing, but she’s risking her pride!”
Luke was furious. Why did everyone blame him? It was Chloe’s fault!
Noah looked at Luke. “Luke, you need to control your temper. Alice was so good to you, and you hurt her. Do you want Chloe to run away too?”
“Noah, it’s not the same! It was Chloe…”
“Enough, I saw the live stream clearly. You led everyone into a trap; as captain, you have to take responsibility. Chloe just got too anxious and made a mistake.”
Luke felt utterly powerless. No matter what he said, Noah didn’t believe him!
I watched coldly from the sidelines; Luke was finally experiencing what I’d endured–being wrongly accused, misunderstood, unable to defend myself. Did it feel good?
Noah called Chloe; but she didn’t answer. “Forget her. Let’s discuss the match.”
I said, “If we want to win this match, all future plans must follow my lead.”
Luke was the first to object,”Why should we?”
My eyes were dark.”Because I know how to win.”
I was exceptionally calm as I laid out my thoughts and plans. I had observed the match earlier and had a good understanding of the Landing Team since we had trained together before.
“Anyone can talk big. Don’t think you’re invincible just because you’re talented. You haven’t trained in ages; what makes you think you can win?”
I pursed my lips. “If you don’t follow my lead, I’ll quit.”
Luke sneered.”Quit then. Think you’re that important?”
Noah intervened. “If we don’t have any other options, follow Alice.”
Luke was reluctant but had no choice; they really had no other plan.
The match was about to resume. I took Chloe’s spot. This was originally my seat from my past life. As I put on my headset, my expression hardened; this time, I wasn’t fighting to please Luke. I was fighting for myself.
The sudden change in players sparked discussion.
Jack, watching from a second-floor window, observed the focused girl.
Andrew said, “Didn’t you say she was just here to watch? In the end, she’s participating in the match. Even with her family’s bias, family still matters more to her.”
“You’re wrong. This is for herself.” Jack understood my reasons. This wasn’t about appeasing Luke. My brilliance now belonged to me alone.
As the match began, the host started commenting, “The Landing Team has encountered some minor issues, and there’s been a personnel adjustment. This newcomer seems a bit unfamiliar; we don’t know her strength. The situation for Landing Team doesn’t look good; how will they break through?”
I entered the game, and the account Chloe played was the same role I used to play-long-range artillery. So I adapted quickly.

I had a plan set up, waiting for the enemy to attack. But at a critical moment, Luke charged out, exposing our position.
I cursed under my breath.”What are you doing?”
“Don’t worry, I can handle it!” Luke dashed out, unwilling to accept defeat, but ended up getting pinned down.
I wasn’t surprised. I called out, “Support me. Others follow the plan.”
I leaped from the high wall, cannon in hand, firing at the enemies.
My figure darted through the buildings, attacking intermittently, disrupting the enemy’s rhythm.
The announcer exclaimed, “Wow, this artillery player is amazing! Her moves are so polished; she doesn’t look like a newbie at all, more like a seasoned pro.”
“She suddenly stopped, dodging the enemy’s ultimate move. How did she predict their attack?”
“Look, she’s charging out, jumping in mid-air, and landing a twelve-hit combo! That’s a move only the legendary King could pull off. How can this newbie girl do something like that? It’s unbelievable!”
The crowd erupted in cheers, the atmosphere igniting!
The legendary King was a god in everyone’s hearts!
Even though he had retired for years, his myth still lingered.
What’s the connection between this newbie girl and the legendary King?
