Chapter 765 Late Love Is Worthless
Dayne held his face, stunned.
He didn’t expect both of us to hit him. He shot me a fierce glare before storming off.
Juliet threw herself into my arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
After comforting her, I took her to work, then headed to the office.
Just as I reached the entrance, I saw Byron standing by my office door, doing who knows what.
“What are you doing here?” I frowned.
“Nothing, just passing by…” Byron looked a little guilty.
“Really? Then I’m leaving.” I turned to go, but he stopped me.

“Wait!” Byron scratched the back of his head, clearly uncomfortable. “I just wanted to ask… how’s Yvette doing?”
“She’s fine,” I said flatly. One look at his face and I knew what he was thinking.
“I was just …”
“Want to see her?” I cut him off, exposing his thoughts.
He gave a slight nod but didn’t dare say more. He knew Yvette ended up like this because of him.
“No.” I shut him down immediately, leaving no room.
“Why not?” He frowned, clearly unhappy. “Yvette hasn’t been to the office in ages. As her director, can’t I be a little concerned?”
“No.” My voice was ice.
“You really see her as just an employee?” I snapped. “When Naomi was hospitalized, you didn’t care this much. Now you’re suddenly worried about Yvette?”
Byron fell silent at my tone.
I stared coldly at him. He gave up on Yvette for the sake of his interests. Now that everything had settled, did he really want to come back and express regret? Life’s not that kind.
He closed his eyes and rubbed his temples. “I know I messed up. I just want to see her once.”
“You know how many reporters are out there right now?”
He couldn’t respond to my harsh words.
“The company just got through the worst of it. A bunch of people are waiting to watch us crash. Don’t come to me with this crap right now,” I said coldly,
“I… I just worry about her,” he mumbled, cautious.
“If you really care about her, then stay away, Stop clinging like this. I rolled my eyes at him.

“Don’t forget what happened before. Just because I haven’t come after you doesn’t mean you’re off the hook.”
Byron humiliated Yvette in front of everyone. I didn’t care if he was a director–there was no way I’d let him off easily.
“I haven’t forgotten. I just want to make things right.”
I raised my hand to cut him off. “Spare me the noble talk. If you really want to do something good–for Yvette, for this company–then stay away from her. Don’t drag her back into the spotlight.”
He froze, then quietly lowered his head.
“Face yourself, Byron. You think I don’t know what you did? Forget Yvette, even I won’t forgive you.”
“I know…” he murmured, his voice barely audible.
“Don’t hurt her again. She can’t take it. And neither can this company.”
“I know. I’ve thought about it,” he said, his face twisted in pain. “I just … I can’t let her go. I can’t let go of what we had.”
His voice broke. “These days, I keep seeing her in my head. She was so gentle and so fragile … ”
I stared at him coldly.
Men like him disgust me the most–those who never cherish what they had, then come crawling back when it’s too late. Late love is worthless.
“I really regret it. I shouldn’t have let her go. I shouldn’t have made her go through it alone.”
The more he spoke, the more emotional he got. It made me tired.
Everything I just said? Clearly went in one ear and out the other. Byron might be a director, but emotionally, he was still a child.
“If you really loved her, you’d stop hurting her.”
I was firmly on Yvette’s side. She never said anything, but I could feel how deeply wounded she was inside.
No one can endure the betrayal from someone they love.
“She can’t take any more of your drama. She’s still an actress–she’s got a career to protect. If you keep chasing her like this, what do you expect her to do?” I didn’t hold back, not even a little.
“I know. I was a bastard back then. I know I messed up. I just want to make it right,” he said, full of regret, taking every word like a punch.
“It’s too late to make it right.” I shut him down again. “If you’d stood by her back when the internet was tearing her apart, I’d respect you I’d say you were a real man. But what you did just let me down.
“I’m willing to speak up now,” he said quickly. “I can clear her name.
“Are you trying to bankrupt the company?” I snapped.

I couldn’t stand to look at him anymore. Everything’s already happened. The company barely survived it. Yvette was just now starting to move on. If he stirred it all up again, it’d be like pouring salt on a healing wound. Nothing good would come from it.
Byron went quiet. He stopped pleading.
“Yvette’s not who she used to be. From now on, the company will take care of her. It’s not your concern anymore.”
All I can do now is make sure she has a safe place to recover.
