Chapter 760 My Stance
Seeing Yvette lying on the hospital bed, her face completely drained of color, made my heart ache.
Beside me, Caden gently patted my back, trying to comfort me in silence.
I got up, grabbed a warm towel, and gently wiped Yvette’s forehead. Then, I carefully wiped down her body.
“Don’t worry, she’s going to be okay,” Caden said softly.
But I didn’t respond. My mind was still fuming over what happened with Eleanor.
Caden sighed, unsure what else to say, and quietly sat back down.
“Rosaline…” Suddenly, Yvette’s hand twitched, and she murmured my name.
My heart leapt into my throat. I quickly grasped her hand. “Yvette, I’m here. Don’t be scared.”
Yvette slowly began to calm down, though her lips kept trembling.
The next second, her eyes flew open, wide and intense. “Rosaline!”
Yvette had always been soft–spoken and gentle. I had never seen her like this before.
“I’m right here,” I said softly, stroking her hand.
When she saw it was me, her emotions settled. Without caring that she still had an IV in her hand, she suddenly threw her arms around me.
“Rosaline, are you okay? I was so scared… ” Yvette choked through sobs.
“I’m fine. You don’t need to be afraid,” I kept soothing her, holding her close.
Yvette sniffled. “I just had a dream where Mrs. Holbrook was hurting you. It scared me so much.”
“Don’t move too much. You’re still on an IV,” I said gently, helping her lie back down. Then I turned to Caden and barked, “Why are you still just sitting there? Go get some food already.”
Without a word, Caden got up and left.
“You’ll be okay. Just rest,” I said as I helped Yvette settle into bed again. “Mr. Richard is here now. Mrs. Holbrook won’t dare try anything–for now.”
Yvette finally relaxed at that.
“She’s the reason you’re like this. I won’t let her get away with it,” I said firmly.
“But … she’s still Mr. Holbrook’s mother,” Yvette said, her voice growing quieter, clearly uncomfortable with the idea of me going after her.
“If someone crosses me, I won’t just sit back and take it.” I’d already made up my mind. “After everything she’s done, how do you expect me to just let it slide? This time, I’m going to hit back.”
Right then, Caden walked back in with a bowl of congee.
I immediately fell silent. He said nothing, just placed the bowl on the tray by the bed. “Eat up before it gear cold.
I looked at him, surprised. He must’ve heard what I said just now. But he didn’t react at all–was that his way of silently agreeing to let me go after Eleanor?
After all, Eleanor was his mother. I’d been worried he might try to stop me.
I gave him a long look, then nodded and handed the bowl to Yvette. “Here, cat something. You haven’t eaten in ages. Don’t starve yourself into passing out.”
Since Caden didn’t say anything about it, I figured I wouldn’t bring it up either.
Richard’s POV:
In the old mansion of the Eclipse Pack, I sat stiffly on a high–backed chair, my face grim. The servants around me didn’t even dare to breathe loudly.
“You–go get those two over here,” I said, pointing at one of the servants nearby.
The servant nodded frantically, sweat pouring down his face. It was obvious who I meant–the two maids who had delivered that message earlier.
It wasn’t long before the two women were dragged in.
Seeing my dark expression, they immediately dropped to their knees, trembling and begging, “We know we were wrong!”
“What exactly did you say to Mrs. Holbrook?” I narrowed my eyes and asked coldly.
“W… We…” The two exchanged uneasy glances. I snapped at them, and they had no choice but to speak.
“It was Laura! She told us to say those things. She’s worked in the mansion for years–if we didn’t do what she said, she threatened to get us kicked out.”
The two maids were shaking so hard they were sweating bullets, and tears were streaming from the corners of their eyes.
“Is that so?” I raised a brow; a bit surprised.
I hadn’t expected this to be Laura’s doing.
Whether she acted on her own or someone else was pulling the strings, now wasn’t the time to dig deeper. For now, I could only ask Rosaline to bear with it.
“Throw all of Laura’s things out,” I ordered coldly. “The Eclipse Pack has no place for someone like her.”
