Chapter 759 Richard Steps In
“Your company isn’t even a tenth the size of Eclipse Group, and you think you can use it as collateral? The nerve! You’re something–calculating enough to risk a garbage company like this!” Eleanor spat, not even bothering to lower her voice in front of the entire office.
“Please watch your language,” I said, my expression darkening.
She was completely out of line, slinging insults without restraint, as if I didn’t even exist
“You dare talk back to me?” Eleanor raised her hand, ready to slap me across the face.
I lifted my arm to block her, but someone beat me to it.
Caden arrived just in time, his face grim as he grabbed Eleanor’s wrist.
“Ca… Caden?” Eleanor froze in place, stunned.
I was wide–eyed, but deep down, I was ecstatic. Perfect timing.
“I told you not to touch Rosaline,” Caden said coldly as he flung her hand away and stepped protectively in front of me.
The sound of his voice, hoarse and tense, stirred something in me. No matter how strong I usually was, my nose stung and my eyes welled up. I couldn’t hold back–I threw my arms around him.
“I’m sorry I’m late,” he murmured. My heart ached at how strained he sounded.
“And I’m no longer your son now that I have a wife, is that it?” Eleanor snapped, though her earlier arrogance had faded.
“I told you not to lay a hand on her,” Caden repeated, his voice like ice.
“I’m fine. How’s the company?” I gave him a faint smile, reaching up to gently touch his face, both worried and relieved all at once.
“I told you–you just have to trust me,” he said, placing his hand over mine. That one small gesture eased. the storm inside me.
As long as Caden was by my side, there was nothing I couldn’t face.
“You think you can treat me like this?” Eleanor started to flare up again, but the sharp look Caden shot her made her fall silent.
“What’s going on here?”
The voice came from behind. We turned to see Richard approaching, leaning on a cane.
Eleanor’s face instantly changed the moment she saw him.
I couldn’t help but give Caden a subtle thumbs–up.
he
After all, Eleanor was his mother–there was a line he couldn’t cross, no matter how angry Richard was different. As the Alpha, he had the authority to discipline anyone, including her.
got.
But
What are you doing here?” Richard barked, his expression already sour. “Didn’t I tell you not to come and go as you please? And now you’re causing a scene at Rosie’s company?”
At his stern voice, Eleanor lost every ounce of her previous arrogance.
“No, I just came to give Rosaline some advice, that’s all, she rushed to explain.
Richard sneered. “You still want to lic? I’ve already seen the footage of you hitting someone. Looks like you don’t want to stay here.”
Without another word, Richard ordered his assistant to book Eleanor a flight.
“Send her out of the country today. I don’t want to see her again.
“No! You can’t…” Eleanor tried to argue, but Richard didn’t even look at her. He motioned to the werewolf bodyguards, who grabbed her and began dragging her out.
“Wait,” I stepped forward, stopping them. “Mr. Richard, I have one question. Earlier, Mrs. Holbrook kept insisting I take the company’s PR team and working capital. I just want to know–where exactly did she hear that from?”
“There’s something like that, too?” Richard turned back to Eleanor, his anger rising. “Well? I expect an explanation.”
“I … I just overheard it from two of the housemaids. I must’ve misunderstood,” Eleanor stammered. At this point, she realized someone had manipulated her. If she didn’t come clean now, her punishment could be
worse.
“That’s enough. Rosie,” Richard turned to me with a softer tone, “for my sake, let’s take this matter up in private, alright?”
I understood what he meant. This was a family issue–best not aired in the middle of the company. I nodded, and Richard left with Eleanor in tow.
After hearing the full story, Caden decided to come with me to the hospital.
When we arrived, we found out Yvette had been rushed to the emergency room. The receptionist, still teary–eyed, was pacing outside. As soon as she saw us, she ran over.
Yvette was unconscious when they brought her in.
While she spoke, the emergency room doors suddenly opened, and Yvette was wheeled out by werewolf doctors and nurses.
“The patient is out of immediate danger,” the doctor said, “but her condition is still serious. We’re not out of the woods yet.”
Seeing how pale Yvette looked, guilt washed over me.
If it hadn’t been for Eleanor, none of this would’ve happened to her.
