A few days later, the police suddenly summoned us.
Lily and I arrived at the station, nervous and unsure of what to expect. To our surprise, the officers had good news.
“We’ve found an eyewitness,” the officer said, offering a faint smile. “He saw the entire kidnapping happen.”
An eyewitness?
Lily and I froze for a moment, barely able to believe what we were hearing.
“Who was it?” I asked quickly.
“It was the security guard stationed at the hospital entrance,” the officer replied. “He witnessed the whole thing. He said it was a woman who instructed the kidnappers to abduct you.”
“A woman? Who was it?” Lily asked with a trembling voice.
The officer looked at us steadily and slowly said, “Annie Morgan.”
It really was her!
Lily and I exchanged a look, overwhelmed by a rush of complicated emotions.
We had speculated over and over about who might have been behind it all. But even after everything, we hadn’t truly believed it would be Annie.
Using the information from the security guard, the police quickly locked in on a suspect.
After interrogation, the man finally confessed.
“It was Annie. She told us where to find Lucy and ordered us to kidnap her for ransom.”
”
The police informed Sam and Leo.
When Sam heard the truth, his face turned pale.
“This… This can’t be true!” he muttered, shaking his head. “Annie would never do that! She’s the
person I trust most!”
I looked at him, a cold smile curling at the corners of my lips. “Sam, even now, you still want to defend her?”
He didn’t respond. He just stood there, stunned.
When the officers laid out the suspect’s confession and presented the evidence, he finally fell silent.
“You were being played all along, Sam,” I said coldly. “She was only ever after your money.”
Sam said nothing. His head dropped, and guilt washed over his face.
Leo wasn’t in much better shape.
As a lawyer, he had been defending Annie, only to discover that the woman he trusted was actually a criminal.
“This… This can’t be real,” he murmured, eyes wide in shock.
I looked at him without the slightest sympathy,
“Leo, she had you wrapped around her finger,” Lily said with a cold stare. “She used you from the beginning, and you still can’t see it?”
Leo didn’t answer. He stood there like a broken man, his eyes completely empty.
Suddenly, Sam seemed to remember something. He pulled out his phone and quickly tried to call Annie.
The line rang, over and over, but no one picked up.
“That damn woman! She actually tricked me!” he shouted, then threw his phone to the floor with a crash.
I stared at him without emotion.
Sam stood still, lowering his head once more as tears of regret slipped down his face.
He had finally realized that his actions hadn’t just ruined himself–they had hurt innocent people too.
The police launched a full–scale search for Annie, but discovered she had already bought a plane ticket and was trying to flee the country.
We’ve stationed officers at the airport. She won’t get away,” the officer told us firmly.
But just as Lily and I finished giving our statements and were preparing to leave the station, something completely unexpected happened.
