Early in the morning, I arrived at the old mansion of the Eclipse Pack carrying a thermal lunch box.
“You didn’t have to bring anything, just your visit is enough,” Eleanor greeted me warmly at the door.
I took her arm sweetly and said, “I made you some chicken soup since you mentioned having no appetite lately. I thought this might help.”
Eleanor’s face lit up as she patted my cheek. “You’ve always been such a thoughtful girl.”
After handing the soup to the housekeeper, we settled onto the plush sofa where I effortlessly steered our conversation toward casual topics.
“Where’s that son of mine hiding?” Eleanor suddenly asked a passing servant.
“Mr. Holbrook left for the office hours ago,” came the reply.
“That boy would sleep at his desk if we let him.” Eleanor sighed dramatically.
“Caden’s dedication to Eclipse Group is truly remarkable,” I praised Caden, making Eleanor laugh with delight.
“Though … I must admit it’s been ages since I’ve seen him.” I blinked and allowed my expression to falter slightly.
The carefully crafted wistfulness in my voice worked exactly as intended. Eleanor immediately reached for my hand. “Don’t you worry, my dear. That boy’s always been hopeless with social graces.”
I nodded bravely, dabbing at my perfectly dry eyes. “His responsibilities must come first, of course.”
Watching Eleanor’s expression soften further, I knew my performance had landed perfectly. Making a show of checking my watch, I began rising.
“Well, Mrs. Holbrook, I should be heading to-”
Just as I turned to leave, Eleanor called after me, “Wait! I’m heading to the company myself—I’ll take you
with me.”
I feigned surprise. “Wouldn’t that be inappropriate? People might get the wrong idea.”
“Nonsense,” Eleanor said, taking my hand firmly. “I’ve taken a liking to you. Let them talk all they want.”
I nodded obediently while inwardly rejoicing.
When we arrived at the headquarters of the Eclipse Pack, I made a show of heading toward my workstation, only for Eleanor to pull me back.
“Is something wrong, Mrs. Holbrook?” I asked with practiced innocence.
“You said you haven’t seen Caden in ages. I’ll take you to him now.”
“Oh, but that’s really not necessary—” My words of protest were belied by how readily I let her lead me
forward.

“With me by your side, who would dare object?” She marched me straight to the CEO’s office and pushed the door open without knocking.
Rosaline’s POV:
I’d returned to the company to collect contracts for my collaboration with Ambrose.
But as soon as I entered, I noticed the staff’s strange behavior.
Where they’d once greeted me respectfully, now they eyed me with open disdain.
Dismissing their rudeness, I headed for Caden’s office–only for his secretary to block my path abruptly.
“Mrs. Rosaline, you can’t go in right now.”
I frowned. This woman who’d once groveled for my favor now stood stiffly, looking down her nose at me.
“I need to discuss documents with my husband. What’s the problem?” I was annoyed. Since when do I need the secretary’s permission for my own business?
“I’m aware it’s about contracts–that’s precisely why you can’t enter,” she retorted, squaring her shoulders, which only confused me more.
“And why is that?” I pressed.
“The CEO informed us the company lacks funds for your project. He also said—”
“Said what?” I fixed my gaze on her.
“That you should abandon this film investment. The entertainment industry is too volatile, and you’d only lose everything.”
I nearly laughed at the absurdity. These words could never have come from Caden.
“You’re certain Caden said this?” I pressed her.
“Of course. Mrs. Rosaline, if you’ll kindly leave … ” she sniffed, though her eyes darted nervously.
“Oh, now you remember I’m Mrs. Rosaline?” My voice turned dangerous. “Since when does the CEO’s wife need a secretary’s approval for investments? How preposterous.”
The secretary flushed crimson before snapping, “Some ‘Mrs. Rosaline‘ you are! Ms. Crawford is inside right now. I was trying to spare you the humiliation!”
“What did you say? Ms. Crawford? Wendy Crawford?” My words came out slow and icy.
“I don’t know about that. You should think carefully before making a scene. Unless you enjoy public disgrace.” The secretary lifted her chin defiantly–so different from her usual deference in front of Caden.
Stunned, I could only wonder–what was Wendy doing in Caden’s office?
