Chapter 738 The Most Talented Person

Byron’s mouth fell open in disbelief before he narrowed his eyes, adopting a deliberately mysterious expression.
I rolled my eyes. “Set up the recording equipment.”
Sull looking unconvinced, Byron kept sneaking glances at me.
“But let me make this clear–Yvette is the most talented person I’ve ever encountered, I stated firmly.
At my words, genuine surprise flickered across Byron’s face. “Most? That’s not a word I ever expected to hear from you… Alright, come here.”
He shook his head in amazement before gesturing to Yvette.
Yvette hesitated, instinctively turning to me for reassurance. I gave her shoulder an encouraging pat. “Just a simple vocal test first. Sing your original piece.”
“Actually … I have the accompaniment track on my phone. I recorded it before,” Yvette offered cautiously.
“Even better.” I looked up at Byron. “Import her backing track.”
As Byron settled at the computer, Yvette quickly transferred the file from her phone.
“Ever recorded in a studio before?” Byron asked without looking up.
Yvette shook her head honestly before whispering, “Does recording into my phone with earbuds count?”
Byron let out an amused huff. “Get in the booth. Put on the headphones. Face the mic. Sing when I say so.”
Looking slightly dazed, Yvette entered the soundproof room and stood awkwardly before the microphone.
From the control room, Byron shot me a glance before speaking into the mic. “Can you hear me?”
Yvette adjusted her headphones and nodded.
“Alright, starting now.” Byron clicked play on her track.
As the gentle intro played, Byron’s fingers began tapping the desk in rhythm, his brow lifting slightly at the melody.
Then the verse began–and Yvette transformed. Her eyes softened as she started singing, her entire demeanor shifting from nervous to serene confidence.
Byron propped his chin on one hand, his usual lazy expression giving way to quiet focus as he studied her through the glass.
I allowed myself a small smile.
Yes. This was the Yvette I wanted him to hear.
The moment she sang, it was like watching a werewolf’s transformation—the shy girl from moments ago completely vanished.
Yet Byron abruptly hit the stop button, cutting her off mid–chorus.

“Hold up. Let’s take it again. You went off–key there,” he said matter–of–factly, his reaction starkly different from my initial awe. “That should’ve been a C note, but you drifted sharp
Inside the booth, Yvette froze before nodding–he was right.
“What are you waiting for?” Byron’s voice crackled through her headphones.
“How did you know I missed that note?” Yvette blurted out.
“Guessed,” Byron shrugged. “With this melody structure, 90% chance it’s a C there. Again.”
Without waiting for her to process this, he restarted the track. Yvette, caught off guard, came in slightly late -prompting Byron to stop the music again.
“Do you actually want to join Starplay?” Byron removed his headphones, leaning back in his chair with an assessing look.
“Yes,” Yvette answered immediately, without hesitation.
Byron drawled. “You could’ve fooled me. Right now you’re singing like it’s karaoke night.”
Yvette’s face fell, her teeth worrying her lower lip.
“From the start,” Byron ordered.
This time, determination flashed in Yvette’s eyes as she matched the accompaniment perfectly.
I remained silent beside Byron, simply observing through the glass.
Leaning toward me, Byron murmured, “How was that? Convincing tough mentor act?”
I arched a brow. “What, are you planning an acting career now?”
“I thought you’d stop me from being so hard on her,” Byron admitted, resting his chin on his palm. “She’s a rookie–usually you’d be all about encouragement.”
“You knew that, yet you called out every flaw anyway,” I noted calmly.
But I didn’t disagree with his approach. I wanted Yvette to grow, not remain stagnant from endless praise.
“I didn’t realize you could be this strict,” Byron teased.
“Speaking from experience?” I shot back. He shrugged and fell silent.
Aside from being signed to Starplay, Byron never behaved like a typical employee–because I never enforced company rules on him. Our years of friendship had taught me his boundaries.
Rules had never been his forte, yet he possessed an innate sense of restraint.
Putting that aside, I refocused on Yvette. After Byron’s blunt critique, she was giving it her all–performing even better than she had at the bar.
As the final note faded, Yvette exhaled slowly, emerging from her musical trance.
It was clear–this girl lived for music. When she sang, nothing else existed.
