“You’ll find out tomorrow,” I said lightly. “She’s the most talented original songwriter I’ve ever encountered.”
Byron let out a skeptical hum. “More talented than me?”
I arched an eyebrow. “Well, she at least works hard instead of napping during office hours
“Ms. Sinclair, let’s keep personal feelings out of this,” Byron grumbled.
“Enough jokes. Be at the office by 1 p.m. sharp tomorrow–no excuses,” I ordered.
“Yes, yes, oh tyrannical capitalist. May this humble servant return to sleep now?” His voice was already slurred with returning drowsiness.
“Didn’t we just discuss those overdue compositions? When exactly will my esteemed composer deliver them?” I asked with saccharine sweetness.
The line went dead before I finished speaking.
Rolling my eyes, I turned at the sound of the door opening to see Caden entering.
Setting my phone aside, I took his suit jacket and hung it up.
“Byron again?” Caden asked.
I nodded, unable to suppress another sigh.
Caden’s fingers brushed my temple as he twirled a lock of my hair. “What’s wrong?”
After a deep breath, I recounted the entire incident with Yvette.
“Who knew so many problems could surface in just a few months?”
From employees leaking confidential information to these management issues–each discovery gave me a fresh headache. I’d never noticed these problems when working behind the scenes.
Had my sudden return to leadership rubbed certain people the wrong way?
“Your company never has these issues,” I mused, blinking up at Caden.
He answered matter–of–factly, “Every company has them. It’s just a matter of when they’re uncovered.”
I pursed my lips. “Speaking of which–how did Wendy get involved with Connor?”
After a thorough investigation, I’d learned Wendy had been escorted to that hotel room where the photos were taken.
That Mr. Garcia was just an accomplice delivering her to the staged scene–though the real problem had been the doctored drink served to Caden.
Just thinking about it made my brow furrow. I’d never imagined Wendy would dare go this far.
Caden’s expression turned icy. “Wendy was just Connor’s pawn.”

Neither Caden nor I had much interaction with Connor, but our investigations revealed his madness was just a facade.

“Connor actually called me about Wendy, but his motives remain unclear–his methods are too erratic,” I said thoughtfully.
Truthfully, I wanted nothing to do with that lunatic.
Caden pulled me against him, pressing a kiss to my forehead. “Connor’s already met with Jessica.”
My nose wrinkled at the mention of Jessica–every encounter with that woman left a bad taste.
Playing with Caden’s shirt button, I tilted my head. “Rumor says Jessica might marry Jack.”
A Stars Pack–Rampage Pack alliance would be troublesome to handle.
But Caden’s lips curved. “Jack’s a businessman who only values profit. Stars Pack offers him nothing worthwhile.”
I blinked in surprise. “Nothing? Stars Pack is a major faction in Rivemon! How-?”
Even with Jack leading Rampage Pack now, their strengths were nearly matched.
How could he be so confident that the Stars Pack was worthless to him?
“Tell me what do businessmen value most?” Caden didn’t answer directly, but instead posed a question of
his own.
