Chapter 47

I heard Chloe’s voice and instinctively frowned.

Chloe had already scurried under my umbrella, holding her backpack over her head to shield herself from the rain, her expression innocent.”I lent my umbrella to a classmate. Can we walk together?”

“No.”

I turned and walked away, giving Chloe no chance to respond.

Chloe stood there in disbelief, quickly getting soaked by the downpour.

She couldn’t believe that with so many people watching, I actually dared to reject her!

Chloe’s expression darkened significantly; she had hoped to use this moment to mend our relationship.

After all, she had noticed changes in Noah and Luke, and a sense of crisis was creeping in.

If I really got coaxed back into the family fold, would there still be a place for her in the Welch family?

That was why she wanted to coexist peacefully with me.

But I was ruthless. Well, she wouldn’t be nice anymore.

Inside the luxury car parked nearby, Andrew observed the scene unfolding not far spunk, rejecting her like that.”

away.”Alice’s

Jack’s gaze was deep.”You can’t be too much of a saint in this world.”

Everything I had gone through was because of Chloe.

Those brothers were blind, but this girl, Chloe, was no pushover either.

I returned to class, hanging my umbrella in the back. Soon, Chloe, drenched to the bone, stumbled back into the classroom, looking utterly miserable.

The teacher couldn’t help but ask, “Chloe, didn’t you bring an umbrella? You’re soaking wet! You’ll catch a

cold.”

Chloe’s face was pale. “I’m fine.”

Her sidekick immediately started gossiping. “It’s all Alice’s fault! She abandoned Chloe and left her in the rain! So inconsiderate!”

I felt my irritation rising. Here we go again.

But before I could say anything, the class monitor spoke up first. “I clearly saw Chloe lend her umbrella to someone else and then insist on squeezing under Alice’s umbrella. But Alice didn’t want to share; what’s wrong with that?”

The sidekick retorted, “In this downpour, even if Alice didn’t want to, she shouldn’t have left Chloe!”

The monitor countered, “But Chloe could have shared an umbrella with the person she lent hers to! Why did she have to force her way under Alice’s umbrella, knowing Alice didn’t like her? Then she turns around and accuses Alice of abandoning her. Who’s really being morally manipulative here?”

The monitor’s solid argument laid out the whole situation clearly. I was a bit surprised; the monitor had seen everything and even defended me. After all, I hadn’t had many friends before.

The sidekick was speechless.”Still, Alice abandoning her was wrong!”

Chloe was taken aback that someone was actually standing up for me; I had always been isolated in class.

Chloe gave

the teacher a knowing look. “Teacher, I’m really fine. It’s a misunderstanding.”

The teacher coughed. “Okay, let’s begin class.”

Chloe was left standing there, not expecting the teacher to drop the subject.

How infuriating!

This wasn’t how she envisioned things going!

After class, I immediately headed to the restroom. Emerging from a stall, I saw the sidekick whispering. The restroom fell silent as I appeared.

The sidekick sneered, “Some people act righteous even when they’re wrong. She thinks she’s superior because she comes from a wealthy family. What’s there to be proud of?”

The person even splashed water on me intentionally.

I was already annoyed because of my period, and now someone was getting in my face.

The sidekick screamed. “What are you doing?!”

My eyes narrowed, my whole demeanor radiating low pressure.”Next time, I’ll pour water down your throat and wash your foul mouth!”

I advanced, the sidekick backing away.”Since you know I’m a member of the Welch family, mind your manners, or I’ll report your cheating evidence to the school. Chloe might get away with it, but you won’t.”

The other sidekick hadn’t returned to school after the cheating scandal.

My face was pale, my whole vibe was volatile and unapproachable.

The sidekick was so scared she bolted.

Finally, I left the restroom, and the class monitor, Jane, approached me.”Alice, if Chloe complains to the teacher, I can back you up. It’s the sidekick who started the insults.”

My expression softened. “Thank you.” I hadn’t wanted to deal with them. But some people needed a lesson.

Jane pushed her glasses up.”I’m sorry. We were all fooled by Chloe’s act, we isolated you.”

Everyone thought I was a bad person.

I replied coolly, “It’s all in the past.”

It was true that because of me, I had no friends in class.

I had a lot on my plate now and no time to dwell on that.

When I returned to the classroom, I didn’t even glance at Chloe. My words to the sidekick were a warning for

Chloe.

The heavy rain poured all day.

When school ended, Jack texted me to wait for him. I opened my umbrella and headed straight to the infirmary.

But I didn’t expect to find Chloe lying on a bed, getting an IV. Shouldn’t she have been taken home?

Jack was nearby, adjusting the IV bag. When he saw me, he said, “Wait a sec.”

I nodded.

Chloe, looking pale, spoke up,”Alice, you’re here. Noah said he’d pick me up but hasn’t. Can you call him?”

I pursed my lips.”Don’t you have hands?”

“Chloe, are you okay?”

Luke rushed in, and upon seeing Chloe on the bed, frowned at me.”Chloe’s sick! Is it really that hard to help her make a call? You might have issues with us, but Chloe owes you nothing.” He’d heard my cold refusal.

I was used to his accusations.

But Jack interrupted, “Isn’t it your irresponsibility? What does that have to do with Alice?”

“She refused to share her umbrella with Chloe, leaving her sick!” Luke bristled.”Alice, I know your grades are improving, but you shouldn’t make Chloe sick! You knew she’s frail!”

I remained unmoved.”Because I hate her.”

“Alice! That’s outrageous! Chloe’s father saved your life! Is this how you treat the daughter of your savior?” Luke lost his temper. Seeing my indifference, he felt disappointed. “Since you’ve been with that school doctor, you’ve changed!”

Jack sneered, “You think she’s changed, but it’s because she won’t join your team, she won’t let you bully her anymore. That’s why you’re angry. At the end of the day, it’s about not getting what you want from Alice.”

Luke was furious.”Alice, do you think the same way?”
