Seven Regrets 27

Chapter 27

I noticed the way Luke was looking at me, my brow furrowing slightly.

At that moment, I received a call from Noah.

“Alice, you’re at the venue, right?”

A bad feeling washed over me. I wanted to deny it, but the screams of the fans around me already answered that question.

“Alice, something urgent came up at the company for me and Caleb, so we can’t attend the competition. This match is crucial for Luke. Join the team. Whatever happened between you and Luke, when facing difficulties, we need to unite against the outside, right?”

The screams of the fans faded away. My silence was deafening. I hung up the phone, not wanting to say anything. I was here to watch them fail, not compete.

On stage, Luke waited for a while but didn’t see me leave my seat to head backstage, which made him a bit irritated. He frowned and said, “What does Alice want? Do I have to go down there and ask her myself?”

Chloe flashed a knowing smile. “Luke, let me text her. But since she’s sitting in the audience, I bet she’s still mad. Otherwise, she would have come backstage to find you.”

Luke remembered my past obedience. I’d understand what he needed without him saying a word. He was used to my devotion. But suddenly, it felt like I had become a completely different person.

Luke grumbled, “Call her. If she comes to the match, I won’t hold the past against her and will treat her like a sister again.” He realized he had been too impulsive about the school incident, so as long as I was willing to back down, he would go with the flow. We could all get along like before.

Chloe’s expression stiffened slightly.”Okay, I’ll call her. I’m sure she’ll come for you.”

Luke’s expression softened a bit.

Chloe stepped aside to make the call, her gaze fixed on me in the audience, her eyes darkening.

I glanced at the caller ID and noticed Chloe on stage. I didn’t need to guess what Chloe wanted to say. I rejected the call outright, expressionless as I watched the stage.

After being hung up on, Chloe looked at me in surprise, then smirked, thinking it was perfect; she didn’t want

to waste her time.

She didn’t want me stealing the spotlight. She and Luke would win; I wouldn’t be needed.

Chloe returned to Luke, her eyes red and looking pitiful.”Luke, I’m clumsy with words; Alice probably dislikes me, she didn’t answer my call. Should I go find her?”

Luke’s face turned dark.”No need. Noah said he tried calling her too. It shows Alice has no intention of joining the team for the match, so don’t go looking for her.”

“Luke, I believe Alice isn’t like that. She wouldn’t be here just to watch us fail.”

“We’re definitely going to win this match. Alice won’t get what she wants.”

Luke put on his headset, ignoring the audience. Chloe smiled with satisfaction:;”Alice, I’ve won again.*

The match began: Landing Team vs. Mount Team

Mast

I watched the commentary on the big screen. At first, Luke, as the assassin, led an ambush. But Mount Team seemed to anticipate his strategy and had developed a bait tactic. In my past life, I’d sensed something was wrong and warned Luke to be cautious and not rush in. Back then, he scolded me harshly. In the end, he charged in with one person to assess the situation, only to fall into the Mount Team’s trap.

I was the one who led the remaining teammates to rescue him, ultimately turning the tide with a surprise attack on the enemy’s base.

This time, I wanted to see what he’d do without my warning.

Sure enough, Luke made the same decision as in my past life, leading the entire team into the enemy’s trap. Seeing this predictable scene, I couldn’t help but smile. Just as expected!

Soon, Luke realized they had fallen into a trap, but it was too late. The team’s rhythm was completely disrupted, and Chloe panicked, making mistakes that nearly cost them their teammates.

Luke raged, “Chloe, what were you thinking? I said retreat! Why did you attack? Showing off?”

Chloe was flustered.”Luke, I couldn’t resist; that guy was low on health.”

“You were giving away free kills! If you were confident in your skills, you wouldn’t have been trapped, and we wouldn’t have been attacked.”

Chloe, publicly humiliated, retorted, “If you hadn’t rushed in and got trapped, this wouldn’t have happened!”

Luke exploded, “You still have the nerve to blame me? It’s clearly your lack of skill that dragged us down. After all this training, you’ve made no progress. What a waste of time!”

Chloe’s face turned a shade of red, and she stormed off her seat. The audience gasped. After all, a player leaving during a match had a significant impact. The big screen focused on Landing Team, and Luke’s grim expression was painfully obvious.

He had no choice but to call for a timeout. Every match has one opportunity for a timeout.

The opposing fans began to murmur, already congratulating themselves in advance.

Luke slammed his keyboard in frustration, clearly furious. He never expected Chloe would dare to throw a tantrum and leave.

If it were me, no matter how much he scolded me, I wouldn’t act like this!

The atmosphere turned awkward.

The opposing team stood up, taunting them. “Luke, why not just admit defeat? It’ll save you from getting humiliated later. Just save yourself some face.”

Luke shot up, “I won’t admit defeat! You’re the ones who are scared of losing, aren’t you?”

“Luke, anyone can see you’re going to lose this match, especially with a player leaving. Didn’t you say family

teams never lose?”

“Family team? It’s just a bunch of kids left behind after their parents died. What’s there to brag about? This isn’t

a game of who has more kids!”

Luke was about to attack.”Watch your mouth!”

“What? It’s true! Go ahead, try to hit me. A useless brat with no one to support you-if your parents were alive to see you play, they’d probably die of embarrassment!”

Hearing this, my expression turned cold, my eyes filled with rage. How dare they insult my parents? I headed straight backstage. Luke was forcibly pulled back by the other teammates to avoid a public fight that would only create negative repercussions.
