Stella’s smile froze on her face, panic flashing in her eyes.

She quickly switched to an angry expression.

“How could this happen? Only Luna and I handled that project. Luna wouldn’t… would she…”

Before Grayson could respond, the emergency alarm blared through the pack house.

“Alpha! The eastern border patrol hasn’t reported in for three hours!”

“Alpha, we’ve lost contact with the northern outposts!’

Grayson’s blood ran cold. These were critical defense points that I had personally established and managed for years.

Stella rushed forward, her bandaged arm clutched dramatically to her chest. “Alpha, I know you’re overwhelmed. Please, let me help. I’ve been studying Luna’s defense strategies. I can coordinate the border patrols while you handle the crisis.”

Grayson hesitated. The pack was in chaos, and he was drowning in reports and emergency protocols that I had always handled

seamlessly.

Against his better judgment, Grayson nodded curtly.

“Fine. Coordinate the eastern and northern sectors. But follow the established protocols exactly.”

Stella’s eyes flashed with triumph. But three hours later, disaster struck.

“Alpha!” A bloodied warrior stumbled into the command center. “The enemy has breached the core territory! They’re heading

straight for the pack house!”

Grayson’s world tilted. “What? How is that possible?”

“The perimeter defenses were… rerouted. Someone pulled the guards from the outer ring to reinforce the borders, leaving the

center completely exposed.”

Stella paled, stammering, “I… I thought consolidating forces would be more efficient. The manual said…”

“You pulled guards from the core?” Grayson’s voice was deadly quiet. “That’s the first rule of pack defense-never leave the

center unprotected.”

The sound of howls grew closer. Enemy wolves were already inside their territory.

“Alpha, we need to evacuate immediately!”

Grayson’s fury exploded. “Get out! Stella, you’re dismissed from all pack duties. Immediately!”

He turned to his remaining warriors. “Emergency lockdown protocol. Initiate the backup defense plan.”

But as chaos swirled around him, Grayson realized he didn’t know the backup protocols. I had always handled the intricate defense systems, the fallback plans, the emergency procedures.

As his warriors scrambled to repel the invasion, one devastating thought consumed him: this would never have happened if I

hadn’t left.

He blamed me for abandoning the pack at such a critical time.

Although he’d indulged himself with Stella for the sake of novelty, it would never have threatened my status as his mate. Why

couldn’t I have seen that?

Then, through the chaos, a memory surfaced.

Three years ago, he’d found me in the study, sealing an envelope.

“What’s that?” he’d asked absently, not really caring.

“Emergency defense protocols,” I’d replied quietly. “In case something happens when I’m not here. I’m leaving it in the safe.”

At the time, he’d scoffed. What could possibly happen that would require such dramatic measures?

Now, with enemy wolves howling outside his windows, Grayson finally understood.

He raced home through empty streets, his heart pounding.

The house felt cavernous and cold as he burst through the door.

The huge house showed no trace of my presence.

Where our mating photos once hung on the wall was now empty space.

Even the decorative items we’d painted together during courtship had vanished without a trace.

As if they’d never existed.

Grayson couldn’t believe I would actually choose to leave.

Until now, he’d always thought my talk of severing mate bond was just throwing a tantrum.

After all, he’d never actually betrayed me in his heart.

Red-eyed, Grayson searched every corner of the house.

Our bedroom.

The study where we worked.

The terrace where we relaxed.

Everything that belonged to me had disappeared.

The safe in the study stood open and empty.

No defense map. No emergency protocols. Nothing.

His world seemed to lose all color in an instant.

It had returned to a space of only black, white, and gray.

In that moment, Grayson clearly realized that I was truly gone. And in his world, the bright light that belonged to him had been

completely extinguished.

Grayson collapsed powerlessly to the floor.

The setting sun stretched his shadow particularly long.

Every inch of shadow revealed a taste of loneliness.

Lost in thought, he noticed a piece of paper left on the table.

He picked it up. It read:

Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement.

This was the only thing I had left behind.

His hand dropped limply.

His gaze swept the empty room over and over again.

The couch where I had once lain with him.

The kitchen where we’d cooked together on anniversaries.

The balcony where I had planted flowers and herbs specifically for him.

All those past memories gathered bit by bit, overwhelming him completely.

The calendar date was still stopped on our twelve-year anniversary.

Underneath lay a wrapped gift box.

Never opened.

It was what I had planned to give him.

For past anniversary gifts, I always spent a month preparing.

But he… had just randomly grabbed some roadside herbs on his way home from work.

In this house, he’d never noticed my contributions.

He’d taken all my devotion for granted.

He’d enjoyed it all with peace of mind, but forgotten that his other half was also weathering storms, never able to rest for a

moment.

He remembered late nights when I was still by the fire checking weapons or planning hunting routes.

He absently picked up the coffee cup from the table-now it was completely empty. Back when I was here, no matter how busy I

was, I would always prepare his favorite hand-ground coffee for him.

Back then, he only complained that I wasn’t working hard enough during the day, always leaving things for the evening.

But he’d forgotten that during the day I led warriors on patrols and hunts. After work, I focused entirely on him—washing his

clothes, making his dinner.

地

My time was completely occupied by pack affairs and caring for him. I had almost no time that belonged to myself.

Tears spilled uncontrollably from his eyes.

They hit the floor with soft pattering sounds.

He thought-he regretted it.

If he could do it over, he definitely wouldn’t have signed that agreement.

He shot to his feet, about to leave to search for my whereabouts.

But just then, his phone rang.
