I sighed and told the butler to head downstairs and call an ambulance.

The love had long since vanished, but I still couldn’t bring myself to watch him die right in front

of me.

Three days later, the butler knocked gently on my door.

“Miss Belle, the man you sent to the hospital, he’s refusing treatment. He keeps asking to see you.”

“Should we help him check out, or…?”

Left with no choice, I got up and made my way to the hospital.

Outside the room, the doctor let out a long, tired sigh when he saw me.

“Miss, you’re finally here. His vitals are unstable, and he won’t cooperate with any of the

treatment.”

From the doorway, I saw Miguel throwing anything he could get his hands on.

‘Get out! I don’t need treatment!”

I stepped past the broken debris on the floor and pushed the door open.

Miguel froze.

His ears and neck were flushed red, and his eyes were glazed, unable to focus.

I recognized the signs: he had a fever.

‘Stop this nonsense. Don’t treat your body like a joke.”

Miguel’s strength finally gave out. He slumped to the ground, panting heavily.

The man who once stood tall like a star now resembled a rotting tree, hollow and lifeless.

‘Without you, I’d rather be dead.”

lifted the hem of my skirt and sat beside him.

Just a few months ago, there had been so much I wanted to say.

But now, silence settled between us, heavy and unspoken, as time slowly slipped by.

After a long pause, I finally said, calm and composed, “To love you. I suffered so much.”

Miguel’s lips quivered. “I’ll change…”

‘But I don’t need you to anymore.”

A bitter smile tugged at my lips. “I already have a new life. So what is it you’re trying to do now?”

‘Don’t make me hate you.”

The color drained from his face. There was a despair in his eyes that I couldn’t quite understand.

At some point, the door had been locked.

I caught the acrid scent of smoke. Something was burning.

Within moments, thick smoke filled the room.

Only then did it hit me: Miguel wanted to die with me.

“Help! Someone help!”

I pounded on the door with all my strength, dialing the fire department as I crouched down and covered my nose.

Miguel just sat there, quietly watching me, letting the smoke engulf him.

The door was suddenly kicked open. It was Marcus.

He scooped me into his arms, cast a cold, cutting glance at Miguel, and carried me out of the smoke-filled room.

Miguel let out a bitter smile and collapsed back against the floor, offering no resistance as Marcus took me away.

“Sorry, I messed it up again.”

His voice was so faint I almost thought I had imagined it.

After we left the hospital, I turned back, and suddenly, fireworks lit up the sky in a burst of color. Instinctively, I looked up and saw Miguel standing at the window, eyes locked on mine.

They shimmered with sorrow as if silently begging me to come back to him.

It turned out that the smoke hadn’t come from a fire; it was the fireworks he had set up misplaced and misunderstood.

He just wanted me to see them one last time.

Marcus’s voice held a quiet trace of jealousy. “Belle, do you still like fireworks?”

I came back to my senses, turned to him, and gently scratched his palm with a faint smile.

“I stopped liking them a long time ago.”

“Let’s go home.”
