Fostered 2
Chapter 2 “What?” I said at the same time as the woman behind me My eyebrows furrowed, unsure I had heard him at all. He slipped his hands away from my waist and moved me so I was standing by his side. He intertwined our hands and continued with a wide smile spread on his lips, “you thought I was joking, right mom? I told you I’d be getting married today” “Karl, what are you–” the woman was saying when a man in a suit walked up to her and cut her off by whispering in her ears. “Right now?” She gasped, her eyebrows shifting in surprise. She pressed one hand to her chest, “alright, III attend to it right away,” she told the man in the suit who simply bowed his head and took a step back. She resumed her focus on the strange man standing next to me, “Karl, I have to attend to important business at one of our malls, but we have to talk once I get home today!” She looked at me one more time before tuming around, her fancy red dress swinging as she walked. The man in the suit opened the door to a massive black expensive looking car that I was too poor to know what it was and soon she disappeared. Once she was driven out of sight, 1 turned to look at the man next to me, “what the hell was that about?” I snatched my hand from him, I was heavily still triggered by the word marriage after what had just transpired between my ex and best friend. Not an expression I’m used to.” he had that smirk still sitting on his face. “Listen, I don’t have the time for useless jokes, I’m way too-“I started to say, trailing off when he leaned in, lowering his face so he could match my height of five–six. “But it’s not a joke,” his voice was low, sending goosebumps trailing down my skin. I couldn’t tell if it was because the commanding aura coming from him was intense, or if I was just genuinely swooned He moved back a littie, reaching into his suit pocket and pulling out a card. “I have an Interesting offer for a marriage. Of course, he handed the card to me. “I won’t force you if you have no interest, but I’d be willing to pay you whatever price you want.” he said, not an element if joke in that Voice I stared down at the business card that read ‘Karl Lever, CEO Lever inc. I’d heard of Lever Inc, they were a leading company in tech, entertainment, and fashion. “Price for what?” I frowned, my confusion deepening by the second. “For getting married to me? “Why would you want to pay me to marry you?!” I blinked, it was official that today was a dream I had to wake up from. find out if you do have interest later,” he dismissed, “Kent?” He called the man behind him, “we’re running late for the meeting, right?” “Yes Mr Lever, the man said in a low voice….
